Can I still make a trailer at home?
Yes!
Previously, individuals and manufacturers could self-certify that a trailer complies with vehicle standards. This certification was included on the trailer’s identification plate—but it wasn’t necessary to notify the government. This has changed.
Individuals or businesses that manufacture less than 4 low ATM trailers within a 12 month period can apply for concessional approval into the ROVER database.
TO APPLY FOR ROVER APPROVAL:
- Register with Rover
- Sign a declaration that the trailer complies with vehicle standards
- Provide copies of invoices for parts & steel – this provides proof of quality and engineering numbers
- Provide photos of build stages to indicate quality
- Apply for VIN
Rover will provide a VIN after a minimum of 14 days. You are then free to register the trailer.
